The Airie Lindsay Scholarship Program

In memory of Airie Lindsay, we have named our camp scholarship program, The Airie Lindsay Camp Scholarship Program. Airie was the voice, the inspiration and the energy behind our scholarship effort to encourage young people to learn about natural history.

2010 Camp Descriptions:

We are pleased to announce that NEK Audubon will provide three scholarships for 2010 summer camps. There will be two scholarships available for attendance at the Acadia Institute of Oceanography at Seal Harbor, Maine, and one for Audubon Camp at Hog Island, Maine.

An additional partial scholarship of $300 is also available for a natural history field trip to Nicaragua sponsored by North Branch Nature Center, Montpelier, for teens aged 13 and up. A deadline of February 1st is set for scholarship application submittal.

Young people attending the Acadia Institute programs will participate in a hands-on curriculum that focuses on oceanography and marine biology. The program for young people aged 10-12 is 6 days, June 21st through 26th, with a partial scholarship of $545. The program for teens aged 12 -15 is a more extensive 14-day program, June 28th through July 11th or August 8th through August 22, with a partial scholarship of $1200.

The scholarship recipient to Hog Island Audubon Camp will participate in activities that increase their knowledge of ecology with a strong emphasis on ornithology. This 6-day program is designed for 14-17 year old campers at a cost of $200 from the participant and a $785 NEK Audubon scholarship.

These scholarships assure that a young person, who might otherwise not be able to afford such an experience, can attend a camp. To access a printable copy of the Acadia Institute and Hog Island application form, click on 2010 Scholarship Application.
